Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

Rebecca Marino will take on Georgina García Pérez in the second round of the WTA Quebec City Open.

Rebecca Marino had a big win in the opening round as she eliminated the number 7  seed, Tatjana Maria. Marino was dominant in that match as she won in straight sets. In the victory, Marino showed that she is a very organized player as all aspects of her game were very solid. Rebecca Marino showed great skill with her serving as she won all of her service games and then backed that by showing her skill in receiving by breaking serve 4 times. The crowd was fully behind Rebecca Marino as she bears the flag for Canada and that seems to have given her a big boost. Considering how well Marino is playing and the fact that she is at home, she will be very hard to beat in this tournament.

On the other side of the coin, Georgina García Pérez enters this match having won her opening match is 3 sets. The opening round match was a tough contest but Georgina García Pérez showed great fighting spirit as she came back from one set down to win. Perez served exceptionally well in the second and third set as she managed to hit 12 aces. This match will be a much bigger challenge for Georgina García Pérez since she is playing a much more accomplished player and will have to deal with the burden of having the crowd against her.

Georgina García Pérez and Rebecca Marino have played each other 3 times in the past with Marino winning on two occasions and Perez winning once.

All in all, I am going to pick Rebecca Marino to win this match. Marino is in great form and has the home crowd behind her. In addition to that, she has a good record against Georgina García Pérez which should only boost Marino’s confidence. Taking these aspects into consideration, I see Marino making it into the third round.
