Grigor Dimitrov and David Goffin meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tennis Monte Carlo Masters.

Grigor Dimitrov is coming off a three sets win over Philipp Kohlschreiber that took 29 games to decide. In the victory, Dimitrov won 68 percent of his first serve points and 58 percent of his second serve points. Dimitrov struggled with his serve yet again, but he won 40 percent of his return points and gave himself 40 break chances. Dimitrov has played three sets in five of his last six matches, which is a sign he’s not playing his best, but he finds himself in his third quarterfinal of the year and a chance to have a breakthrough in a big tournament. Dimitrov has won four of his last five quarterfinal appearances. Dimitrov hopes to make his fifth career semifinal appearance in a ATP World Tour Masters 1000. Dimitrov has won six of his last nine matches on clay court.

David Goffin is coming off a straight sets win over Roberto Bautista Agut that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Goffin won 75 percent of his first serve points and 50 percent of his second serve points. Goffin beat one of the hotter players in the tournament despite being broken three times, as he won 45 percent of his return points and lost just nine first serve points. Goffin has yet to drop a set this tournament and has a chance to make the semifinal of the Monte Carlo Masters for the second straight year. Goffin has won five of his last six quarterfinal appearances. Goffin has a chance to make his fourth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semifinal appearance of his career. Goffin has won four of his last six matches on clay court.

These two have played 10 times and Dimitrov has won nine of those meetings. The most recent match was in Rotterdam of this year, a match Dimitrov won in straight sets. Dimitrov is 3-0 against Goffin on clay and his only loss to him was in the 2017 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.

Dimitrov has yet to play his best tennis so far this tournament, but he’s still finding ways to win. That has to be a great feeling moving forward, as the best players in the world find ways to win regardless of the situation. The head to head numbers are overwhelming.

You have to side with Dimitrov to win this match.
