Robredo vs. Dimitrov
|Date & Time||Wednesday May 31, 2017, 9:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Robredo +375 / Dimitrov -500 -- Over/Under:
Grigor Dimitrov and Tommy Robredo meet in the second round of the 2017 French Open.
Grigor Dimitrov is coming off a straight sets win over Stephane Robert that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Dimitrov won 82 percent of his first serve points and 51 percent of his second serve points. Dimitrov is coming off a painless match in which he converted all seven break points and won 49 percent of his return points. Dimitrov came into this tournament in a serious slump, but he should have some confidence after simply dominating a top-100 player in the world. Dimitrov hopes to make the third round of a grand slam for the fourth straight time. Dimitrov has made the third round of the French Open just once in his career. Dimitrov has lost five of his last eight matches on clay court.
Tommy Robredo is coming off a four set win over Daniel Evans that took 38 games to decide. In the victory, Robredo won 68 percent of his first serve points and 63 percent of his second serve points. Robredo is a shell of being a top-five player that he was back in 2006, but he's always been dangerous on clay court and the French Open has been his most successful grand slam by far. Robredo has made the third round of a grand slam five times since 2014. Robredo has made the third round of the French Open in 11 of his 13 tries. Five of Robredo’s seven career grand slam quarterfinal trips have come at the French Open. Robredo has lost five of his last seven matches on clay court.
These two have played four times in the past and Robredo has won three of those meetings. The most recent match was in this year's Grand Prix Hassan II, a match Robredo won in three sets. Dimitrov’s only win over Robredo came in the 2014 Canadian Masters. Robredo is 2-0 against Dimitrov on clay.
Considering Robredo’s success at the French Open and the fact he's beaten Dimitrov in three of the four meetings, there's great value in the underdog if you're looking for a second round upset. However, Robredo is in just such lousy form and will have a hard time against Dimitrov if he brings even his B game. Dimitrov is the more skilled player and should have his way here as long as he limits his unforced errors.
