Guido Pella and Roberto Bautista-Agut meet in the quarterfinal of the 2019 tennis Munich.

Guido Pella is coming off a three sets win over Taro Daniel that took 29 games to decide. In the victory, Pella won 71 percent of his first serve points and 64 percent of his second serve points. Pella won 69 percent of his total service points and converted on five of his 12 break points. Pella kept his head in the game after dropping a tight second set tiebreak, and he bombed 11 aces while saving eight of his 10 break points. Pella gives himself a shot here if he continues to get so many free points with his serve. Pella has a chance to win three straight matches for the third straight tournament. Pella has won eight of his last 10 matches on clay court.

Roberto Bautista-Agut is coming off a straight sets win over Rudolf Molleker that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Bautista-Agut won 87 percent of his first serve points and 47 percent of his second serve points. Bautista-Agut won 74 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his 15 break points. Bautista-Agut finally put together a routine match, and while he still had issues with his second serve, he only had to serve 15 of them, so it wasn’t that big of an issue. Bautista-Agut is a legit contender in this tournament if he can repeat his first performance. Bautista-Agut has a chance to win two matches in a single tournament for the second time since the Australian Open. Bautista-Agut has won five of his last seven matches on clay court.

These two have played once, which was in the 2017 Australian Open, a match Bautista-Agut won in three sets. The match took 23 games to be decided.

Pella has been on a tear on clay so far this year, but he was absolutely dominated in the first meeting against Bautista-Agut and doesn’t have the firepower needed to beat the Spaniard when he’s actually playing well. Bautista-Agut looked sharp in his opener and is going to be a tough out as long as his first serve is working. I have more confidence in Bautista-Agut at the moment.

Bautista-Agut should win this match and advance to the semifinals.
