Spanish tennis player, Guillermo García-López has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2019 ATP New York Open. At this stage of the tournament, Guillermo García-López is set to play against Reilly Opelka from the United States.
Guillermo García-López won his previous match in 3 sets as he beat the number 4 seed, John Millman. It was a close match but Guillermo García-López won a tiebreaker in the opening set before breaking early in the third set to set up the overall victory. During the win, Guillermo García-López served well as he hit 8 aces while winning 80% of his service games. Guillermo García-López is an accomplished player but he hasn’t made an ATP final since 2015 which shows that the Spaniard is past his best.
On the other side of the coin, Reilly Opelka made it into this match after his previous opponent, Denis Istomin retired due to injury. During his previous match, Reilly Opelka impressed with his serving as he hit 32 aces which led him to win over 90% of his first service points. Reilly Opelka won 83% of his service points which resulted in his eventually winning all of his service games. It is important to note Opelka struggled with his receiving as he failed to win any break points in 2 sets against Istomin. Reilly Opelka is one of the tallest players on the ATP tour at 6 foot 11 inches which has made it tough for most opponents to play his serve. The serve is expected to be an advantage for Opelka in this match also.
This will be the first time that Reilly Opelka and Guillermo García-López will be playing each other at an ATP event.
Taking everything into consideration, I am picking Guillermo García-López to win this match. Opelka has had a good tournament but Guillermo García-López is more experienced which is very significant at this stage of the tournament. With experience on his side, I see Guillermo García-López winning this match and making the semifinals of the tournament.
