Taiwanese tennis player, Hsieh Su-wei has made it into the second round of the 2019 WTA Qatar Open in Doha. At this stage of the tournament, Hsieh Su-wei is set to play against Karolína Muchová from the Czech Republic.
It was an impressive opening round performance by Hsieh Su-wei has she won in straight sets against Aliaksandra Sasnovich. It was a dominant display by Hsieh as she only allowed her opponent to win 2 games in the entire match. During the win, Hsieh Su-wei returned serve exceptionally well as she won 59% of her receiving points which allowed her to break Sasnovich’s serve on 5 occasions. Hsieh Su-wei won the doubles event at the Qatar Open in 2014 so she should be very comfortable playing at this venue. With a good opening round win and a great relationship with this venue, Hsieh Su-wei will be confident as she enters this match.
Looking at her opponent, Karolína Muchová won her opening round fixture in straight sets. It was a comfortable win as Karolína Muchová beat Samantha Stosur. During the victory, Karolína Muchová won 89% of her service games while breaking Stosur’s serve on 4 occasions. Karolína Muchová is still very new on the WTA tour and while her performances in 2019 have been decent, she lacks experience which could cost her in this match as she is play a very accomplished opponent.
This is set to be the first time that Karolína Muchová and Hsieh Su-wei will be playing each other at a WTA event.
Taking everything into consideration, I am picking Hsieh Su-wei to win this match. Hsieh has accomplished much more in recent times when compared to Karolína Muchová. Furthermore, Hsieh looked much more fluent and dominant in her opening round win. As it stands, Hsieh Su-wei is the stronger player and I see her winning this match and making the third round.
