Irina-Camelia Begu and Shelby Rogers meet in the fourth round of the 2016 French Open.

Irina-Camelia Begu is coming off a three set win over Annika Beck that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Begu won 67 percent of her first serve points and 41 percent of her second serve points. Begu has been able to make the shots when it matters most, as all of her wins have come in three sets. Begu also isn’t doing herself any favors by racking up 79 unforced errors in her last two matches. Begu will have to play cleaner tennis if she hopes to have her grand slam breakthrough. However, Begu is serving well and has won no less than 64 percent of her first serve points. Begu hopes to make the quarterfinals of a grand slam for the first time in her career.

Shelby Rogers is coming off a three set victory over Petra Kvitova that took 25 games to decide. In the win, Rogers won 70 percent of her first serve points and 52 percent of her second serve points. Rogers won both of her sets 6-0 and had just 18 unforced errors in the victory. Rogers isn’t used to beating top-15 players, so it will be interesting to see how the 23-year-old responds to the big victory. Rogers has won no less than 64 percent of her first serve points and has 54 winners in her last two matches. Rogers has never reached the quarterfinals of a grand slam. This is the first time Rogers has ever made the fourth round of a grand slam.

This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.

I give Rogers a shot to win this match as it’s closer to a toss-up in my eyes more than anything. But when it comes down to it, Begu is the more experienced player and her favorite surface in clay court, as she’s had a lot of success on clay.

I’m leaning with a Begu victory, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Rogers wins this match.

Pick:
Irina-Camelia Begu
