Jack Sock and Kevin Anderson meet in the semifinals of the 2017 Citi Open.

Jack Sock is coming off a straight sets win over Milos Raonic that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Sock won 80 percent of his first serve points and 43 percent of his second serve points. Sock has not dropped this tournament and is serving his behind off, as he’s won no less than 80 percent of his first serve points in all three of his matches. You know Sock is in rare form when he’s able to outperform Raonic and come away with five break chances. Sock can only hope he can continue this momentum heading into the US Open. Sock hopes to make his eighth career singles final appearance and third this season. Sock has won seven of his last 10 matches on hard court.

Kevin Anderson is coming off a three sets win over Yuki Bhambri that took 29 games to decide. In the victory, Anderson won 84 percent of his first serve points and 47 percent of his second serve points. Anderson has played eight sets to get to this point and is coming off a match in which he blasted 20-plus aces. Anderson has had an up-and-down season overall and is trying to find his form after limited matches on hard court, but he’s going to be tough to beat as long as his serve holds up. Of course, this is just Anderson’s second semifinals appearance in the last two years. Anderson hopes to make his 12th career singles final appearance and first since the 2015 Winston-Salem Open. Anderson has won five of his last seven matches on hard court.

These two have played three times and Sock has won twice. The most recent match was in Auckland in 2016, a match Sock won in three sets. Anderson’s only win over Sock came in the 2015 Cincinnati Masters.

Anderson still has flashes of being the player he once was, but he’s overall very inconsistent and had those same struggles in his last match. Having issues with a guy ranked way outside of the top-200 doesn't inspire much confidence. Sock is playing some of his best tennis of the season right now, hitting his spots and has the US crowd behind him.

Sock advances to the final.
