J. Struff -125 / M. Berrettini +100
German tennis player, Jay-Lennard Struff has made it through to the semifinals of the 2019 ATP Stuttgart Open in Germany. Struff will now play against Matteo Berrettini from Italy.
Matteo Berrettini has looked in outstanding form throughout this tournament as he has already defeated the likes of Nick Kyrgios and Karen Khachanov. In the previous round, Berrettini defeated Denis Kudla from the United States. It was a dominant performance by Matteo Berrettini as he won in straight sets. During the victory, Matteo Berrettini served exceptionally well. Matteo Berrettini hit 10 aces and won 79% of his service points which resulted in the Italian winning 100% of his service games. In addition to that, Matteo Berrettini also won 3 break points to secure a comfortable victory. It has been a very strong few months for Matteo Berrettini as he recently won the Hungarian Open. Considering his form leading into this tournament, Matteo Berrettini will be very tough to defeat.
On the other side of the coin, Jay-Lennard Struff defeated Lucas Pouille in the previous round. It was a very impressive performance by Struff as he won 100% of his service games and 2 return games to complete a straight-sets victory. Similar to Matteo Berrettini, Jay-Lennard Struff has also been in outstanding touch in this tournament as he has defeated the likes of Denis Shapovalov. Stuff has had the advantage of the home crowd and it seems like it is giving the German a big boost in his performance. This will be a tough match since Matteo Berrettini is in outstanding form but Struff will feel that he has a good chance of winning in his home country.
This will be the first time that Matteo Berrettini and Jay-Lennard Struff will be playing each other in a singles match at an ATP event.
Both Matteo Berrettini and Jay-Lennard Struff have been in outstanding form and that makes this a very tough match to predict. To make things more difficult, both players are ranked within 8 places of each other which indicated very similar levels of skill and recent accomplishments. With that being said, I am going to pick Jay-Lennard Struff to win. I mentioned that it will be tough to stop Matteo Berrettini but I feel that the German is playing good enough tennis to topple the Italian, especially since this match is being played in Stuttgart. Home advantage is often decisive in tennis and I see that giving Struff the edge in this close match-up.
