Anderson vs. Tsonga

The Line: -- Over/Under:
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Kevin Anderson meet in the third round of the 2016 US Open.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is coming off a four set win over James Duckworth that took 38 games to decide. Tsonga has just been trying to find his form, as he hasn’t looked great since the Wimbledon and didn’t enter this tournament with a lot of matches under his belt. However, we know Tsonga is one of the tougher players to face when he’s hitting the ball well and he has a couple of US Open quarterfinal appearances under his belt. As usual, Tsonga won’t go down easy in a grand slam. Tsonga has made the fourth round of a grand slam in eight of his last 10 appearances. Tsonga has won eight of his last 12 matches on hard court.
Kevin Anderson is coming off a straight sets win over Vasek Pospisil that took 33 games to decide. Anderson has played improved tennis as of late after making the quarterfinals in Canada and the final 16 in Cincinnati. Anderson also has yet to drop a set in this tournament and should be ready to serve a high percentage like he’s done recently. Anderson is coming off a match in which he hit 16 aces and if he can duplicate that performance here, he has a shot to advance. Anderson looks to make his first grand slam fourth round since last years US Open. Anderson has split his last eight matches on hard court.
These two have played twice in the past and Tsonga has won both meetings. The most recent match was in the 2015 Shanghai Masters, a match Tsonga won in three sets. The other match took place in the 2014 Rome Masters.
The history between these two doesn’t lie, as Tsonga is the better overall player and has the return game that could give Anderson trouble. Anderson is also somebody who usually bows out of a grand slam around this time with just one quarterfinal appearance in his career.
