Rafael Nadal has made it into the third round at Wimbledon. At this stage of the tournament, Nadal will play against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga from France.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga enters this match having won his previous outing in straight sets. It was a dominant display by Tsonga where he won 93% of his service games and 3 return games. The serving was especially impressive from Tsonga as the Frenchman hit 14 aces which aided him in winning 76% of his service points.
Tsonga has looked in very good form throughout this tournament as he has won both of his matches in straight sets. Tsonga has a very good record at Wimbledon as he has made the semifinals on 2 occasions. That being said, this is expected to be a very tough match since he is playing against Rafa.
Rafael Nadal had a solid win in the previous round as he defeated Nick Kyrgios in 4 sets. There was lots of off-court talk about the match but Rafa showed his class to comfortably defeat the Australian. During the win, Nadal served exceptionally well as he won over 90% of his service games. Nadal handled the occasion with great calmness as he won 2 tiebreakers during the victory.
Nadal has been in outstanding form as he recently won both the Italian Open and the French Open. Rafa has won Wimbledon twice and he is looking very good in this tournament. Considering his record at this venue and his current form, Nadal will be tough to stop.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Rafael Nadal have played each other 12 times in the past. Nadal has won on 8 occasions while Tsonga has won 4 times. The most recent fixture between these two players was in 2015 at the Shanghai Masters where Tsonga won in 3 sets.
This could be a potentially tricky match for Rafa since Tsonga has the power to beat any player on grass. That being said, Rafa is playing with great confidence and he seems to be hitting the ball extremely well. Overall, Rafa is the stronger player and considering his form, he should be good enough to defeat Tsonga.
