The Line: -- Over/Under:
Johanna Konta and Ajla Tomljanovic meet in the semifinals of the 2019 tennis Morocco Open.
Johanna Konta is coming off a three sets win over Su-Wei Hsieh that took 33 games to decide. In the victory, Konta won 69 percent of her first serve points and 51 percent of her second serve points. Konta won 62 percent of her total service points and converted on six of her 14 break points. Konta has won all three matches this tournament in three sets and has produced a combined 13 breaks in her last two matches. Konta has now won each of her last eight matches that have gone the distance. Konta hopes to make her first final appearance since last years Nottingham Open and the seventh final appearance of her career. Konta has won six of her last nine matches on clay court.
Ajla Tomljanovic is coming off a straight sets win over Rebecca Peterson that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Tomljanovic won 66 percent of her first serve points and 41 percent of her second serve points. Tomljanovic won 54 percent of her total service points and converted on six of her 10 break points. Tomljanovic has won six of her seven sets to get to this point and has produced a combined 12 breaks in her last two matches. Tomljanovic has now won seven of her last 10 matches overall, and while her serve could still use an improvement, her feisty return gives her a true shot to make a run at another final appearance. Tomljanovic hopes to make her second final appearance of the year and the fifth of her career. Tomljanovic has won five of her last seven matches on clay court.
These two have played three times and Konta won two of those matches, including the most recent meeting in this years Australian Open. All three of the matches were played on hard court and two of the three matches were decided in three sets.
The previous three meetings have been competitive, but Konta has had the upper hand and on clay it shouldn’t be any different where she can unleash her craftiness a little more. Tomljanovic has been a little shaky with her serve at times and that’s not going to fly against a good form Konta, who is better than the previous players Tomljanovic has run into.
I like Konta to make her first final of the year.
