American tennis superstar, Sloane Stephens will be playing at the 2019 WTA Rome Masters in Italy. Stephens will begin her campaign in the second round where she will face Johanna Konta from the United Kingdom.

Sloane Stephens received an opening round bye due to her high seeding. It had been a poor start to the season for Sloane Stephens but the American turned her form around in her previous tournament as she made the semifinals of the WTA Madrid Masters. Stephens was eventually eliminated by Kiki Bertens but the American showed good form as she beat the likes of Petra Martic and Victoria Azarenka. This is a tough start to the tournament for Sloane but considering her form in Madrid, she will be confident in her ability to win.

On the other side of the coin, Johanna Konta won her opening match in straight sets. It was a dominant display by Konta as she won the opening set 6-1 and second set 6-4. During the win, Konta served exceptionally well as the Brit won 67% of her service points which allowed her to win all of her service games. Konta also won 4 return games, to sum up, a very dominant display. This will be a tougher match for Konta but she has beaten some top players this season and her confidence will be high.

Johanna Konta and Sloane Stephens have played each other once in the past. Johanna Konta won on that occasion. The match was played earlier in the season at the Brisbane International where Konta won in straight sets.

Both players will feel that they can win this match. Sloane showed her ability in Madrid but I see the American superstar crashing out of the Rome Masters. Konta has been very impressive in 2019 and the Brit showed that she can beat Sloane in Brisbane. Konta looks high on confidence and I see her winning this match and making it into the third round.
