Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

American tennis superstar, John Isner will be playing Cameron Norrie from the United Kingdom in the opening round of the 2018 ATP Erste Bank Open in Vienna.

Cameron Norrie enters this tournament as a lucky loser after he was eliminated in the second round of the qualifiers. Norrie has been in decent form prior to this event as he made the second round of the European Open and the quarterfinals of the Shenzhen Open. This opening round match has resulted from a bad draw for Norrie but having beat John Isner earlier in the year, Norrie will feel that he has the ability to record his second win against the world number 9.

On the other side of the coin, John Isner enters this tournament after making the semifinals of the ATP Stockholm Open in Sweden. During that tournament, Isner served exceptionally well as he only lost 4 service games in the entire tournament. The semifinal loss was disappointing for Isner as he won the opening set with ease but then allowed his opponent to break his serve 3 times in the second and third sets to end up with a loss. This will be only the third tournament that John Isner is playing since the US Open and with some tennis under his belt last week, the American should be fresh and well prepared for this event.

Cameron Norrie’s win over John Isner earlier this year has been the only time that these two players have played against each other at an ATP event.

All in all, I am going to pick John Isner to win this match. Cameron Norrie has been playing decent tennis but he is ranked over 70 spots below Isner. With Norrie winning their previous meeting, I am expecting Isner to be much more alert and focused for this match. I don’t see Norrie upsetting Isner again so I am backing the American to make it through to the second round.
