Defending champion, John Isner has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2019 ATP Miami Open in Florida. At this stage of the tournament, John Isner will play against Kyle Edmund from the United Kingdom
John Isner looked in very good form in his previous match as he won in straight sets. Like a trademark Isner victory, the American was exceptional while serving. During the match, John Isner hit 16 aces which aided him to win 75% of his service points and 92% of his service games. Isner’s returning was also much improved as he broke his opponent’s serve on 2 occasions. John Isner has a tremendous record at the Miami Open and playing with the support of his home crowd seems to give him a big boost.
On the other side of the coin, Kyle Edmund beat Milos Raonic in the previous round. It was a dominant display by the Brit as Edmund won 100% of his service games and 20% of his return games to set up a comfortable straight sets victory. This is expected to be a much tougher match for Kyle Edmund as he is playing a stronger opponent and will have the crowd against him.
John Isner and Kyle Edmund have played twice in the past with both players winning once. The most recent match between these two players was in 2016 at the US Open where Kyle Edmund won in 4 sets. Isner’s win over Edmund was in straight sets at the 2016 French Open.
As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick John Isner to win. Isner has looked in very good form and his record at the Miami Open is exceptional. Isner has the advantage of playing in his home country and I see that being enough to get him a win in this match.
