John Isner and Lukas Rosol meet Wednesday in the round of 16 in the Geneva Open.
John Isner will play his first match this tournament and is looking to build some consistency before the French Open. Isner is back in one of his inconsistent funks as he’s split his last six matches and is coming off a straight sets loss to Jack Sock back in Houston. The good news for Isner is that he’s had plenty of time to rest and refocus, as he’s still trying to become a top-10 player at some point this season. The bad news for Isner is that clay isn’t his best surface, and he’s lost three of his last five matches on clay. This will be Isner’s first ever match at the Geneva Open.
Lukas Rosol is coming off a straight sets win over Roberto Ortega-Olmedo that took 19 games to decide. Rosol has split his last eight singles matches and has had a heavy recent work load with him playing doubles as well. Rosol has been hit or miss the last couple of seasons and has had trouble overall in regaining his form after a solid 2014 season in which he was a top-30 player. Rosol would love nothing more than to get a win over a top-20 player which would certainly add some much needed confidence after a rocky season overall. Rosol has never made it past the round of 16 in Geneva.
These two have never played before, as the match in Winston-Salem in 2014 was a walkover.
Even with Isner being hit or miss as of late, he should have very little issues with Rosol, who has had trouble with guys far less talented as the American. Look for Isner’s serve to be on point and get him the victory.
