John Isner vs Nick Kyrgios - 3/1/19 ATP Tour - Mexican Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The number 3 seed from the United States, John Isner has made it into the semifinals of the 2019 ATP Mexican Open. At this stage of the tournament, John Isner will play against Nick Kyrgios from Australia.

Nick Kyrgios has had an exceptional tournament as he beat Rafael Nadal in the second round and Stan Wawrinka in the previous round. It was a comfortable win over Wawrinka as Kyrgios won in 3. Nick Kyrgios won the first and third sets but lost the second set via a tiebreaker. During the win, Nick Kyrgios impressed with his serving as he won 79% of his service points which resulted in him winning 94% of his service games. It was a dominant display by Kyrgios and he looks high on confidence, especially since he win over Nadal. This match will be another test for Nick Kyrgios but he will feel confident that he can win.

On the other side of the court, John Isner also won his previous match in 3 sets as he beat John Millman. It was an outstanding serving display by John Isner as he hit 38 aces which resulted in him winning 78% of his service points. Isner only lost 1 service game in the entire match which made him very hard to beat. This is the third successive tournament where John Isner has made it into the semifinal meaning that he will be very confident as about his form as he enters the court.

John Isner and Nick Kyrgios have played each other 4 times in the past with both players winning on 2 occasions. The most recent match between these two players was in 2017 during the Davis Cup where Nick Kyrgios won.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Nick Kyrgios to win. While Isner has looked good for the past few months, Nick Kyrgios is having a much stronger tournament. Nick Kyrgios has already beaten Nadal and Wawrinka and I see him getting another big win in this match.
