John Isner and Steve Darcis meet in the second round of the 2016 US Open.

John Isner is coming off a five set victory over Frances Tiafoe that took a fifth set tiebreak to decide. Isner needed to come back after dropping the first two sets and also had to battle the crowd who was rooting for the 18-year-old American. Fatigue may be an issue for Isner and he was a bit frustrated with the lack of support during his post match interview. It’s going to be interesting to see how Isner bounces back from such a performance. Isner has made at least the third round in his last five grand slam appearances. Isner has won eight of his last 12 matches on hard court.

Steve Darcis is coming off a five set victory over Jordan Thompson that included one tiebreak. Darcis needed more than four hours for his match to decide and may be the more tired player between these two. Darcis has some built up momentum after winning three matches during qualifying and winning the Trnava Challenger title, so the confidence should be somewhat high for a guy ranked outside of the top-100. However, Darcis better be more consistent with his serve if he's going to pull off an upset here. Darcis hasn’t made the third round of a grand slam since the 2011 French Open. Darcis has won five of his last six matches on hard court when you include qualifying.

This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.

Isner should have gotten the message to the crowd and the support should be on his side this time. Also, Darcis has nothing for Isner’s serve and will be more drained than the American given the time of their first round matches. This should be an easier match for Isner.

I like Isner in straight sets.
