Albert Ramos Viñolas is set to play world number 4, Juan Martin del Potro in the opening round of the ATP China Open.

Albert Ramos Viñolas had a strong Shenzhen Open last week where he made the quarterfinals. During the Shenzhen Open, Albert Ramos Viñolas was exceptional in the pressure situation as he won 4 tiebreakers in his 3 matches at the event. In addition to that, Albert Ramos Viñolas also displayed a strong serve as he only lost 6 service games in the entire tournament. Albert Ramos Viñolas has a great record in China having finished 2nd in an ATP 250 Series event in 2016. With conditions in China being favorable and form on his side, Albert Ramos Viñolas will hope to do well in this tournament.

Unfortunately for Albert Ramos Viñolas, the draw has been poor for Spaniard as he will play the top seed in the first round. Juan Martin del Potro will be playing his first tournament since the US Open where the Argentine was very impressive as he finished second. Juan Martin del Potro has an exceptional record in Asia as he has a runners-up title at the Shanghai Masters and a winners title at the Japan Open. This should be a relatively easy match for the Argentine as Juan Martin del Potro is much more ability than Albert Ramos Viñolas.

Albert Ramos Viñolas and Juan Martin del Potro have played once in the past. The match was at Wimbledon in 2013 and Juan Martin del Potro won in straight sets.

All in all, I see Juan Martin del Potro winning this match. While Albert Ramos Viñolas played well at the Shenzhen Open, he is nowhere near the quality of the world number 2. With such a great difference in ability, I see Juan Martin del Potro winning this match.
