Juan Martin Del Potro and Gilles Simon meet in the fourth round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.

Juan Martin Del Potro is coming off a straight sets win over Benoit Paire that took 32 games to decide. In the victory, Del Potro won 80 percent of his first serve points and 49 percent of his second serve points. Del Potro won 67 percent of his total service points, had just 16 unforced errors and gave himself 12 break points. Del Potro has now won 23 of his last 28 sets played and has both his serve and return working at a very high level. As long as Del Potro stays in this form, he’s going to give himself an honest chance of making his second career grand slam final appearance. Until then, Del Potro hopes to make the quarterfinals of a grand slam for the third time since 2016. Del Potro also hopes to make his second career Wimbledon quarterfinal. Del Potro has won six of his last eight matches on grass court.

Gilles Simon is coming off a four sets win over Matthew Ebden that took 42 games to decide. In the victory, Simon won 71 percent of his first serve points and 63 percent of his second serve points. Simon won 68 percent of his total service points, had 42 winners and just 17 unforced errors. Simon has yet to drop a set this tournament and will be a threat if he continues to get a large percentage of his first serves in play. Simon has never been a great grand slam player in his career, but he’s off to a very strong start this tournament and and is playing with a great deal of confidence. Simon hopes to make his third career grand slam quarterfinal and first since the 2015 Wimbledon. Simon has split his last six matches on grass court.

These two have played seven times and Del Potro has won four of those matches. The most recent match was in the 2016 Stuttgart Open, a match Del Potro won in three sets. Del Potro is 3-0 against Simon on grass court.

Simon is playing well right now, but Del Potro is one of those players I’m not betting against in his current from. He’s been one of the more consistent players all year and this tournament has been no different. You can count on one hand how many players can beat Del Potro in his current from. Simon isn’t one of them.

Del Potro reaches his second career Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Pick:
Juan Martin Del Potro
