Juan Martin Del Potro and Taro Daniel meet in the third round of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
Juan Martin Del Potro is coming off a three set victory over João Sousa that took 26 games to decide. Del Potro is the clear cinderella of this tournament so far considering he also sent home Novak Djokovic in the first round. Everybody knows what Del Potro is capable of considering he was a top-five player many years ago, but he hasn't looked like that guy in quite some time. However, Del Potro looks like the confident and dangerous guy he was many years ago and has a chance to bring Argentina another olympic medal. Del Potro has won seven of his last 10 matches on hard court.
Taro Daniel is coming off a straight sets win over Kyle Edmund that took 22 games to decide. Daniel has yet to drop a set this tournament and did take out a seeded player in the first round in Jack Sock. So, the 23-year-old Daniel has to be confident heading into this match, especially with him holding serve well and making his opponent work to win points. Daniel is best playing on clay court, but he’s looked sharp leading up to this match and has improved recently on hard court. If Daniel can control his nerves and do a good job of taking care of his service game, he’ll have a chance for another upset. Daniel has split his last eight matches on hard court.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
Not only is Del Potro playing great tennis again, but he has a massive experience advantage over Daniel. After all, Del Potro did win the bronze medal back in the 2012 olympics. Daniel hasn't been in many big matches in tournaments like this.
Give me Del Potro in straight sets.
