The Line: -- Over/Under:
Julia Goerges and Eugenie Bouchard meet in the semifinals of the 2018 tennis Luxembourg Open.
Julia Goerges is coming off a three sets win over Donna Vekic that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Goerges won 82 percent of her first serve points and 47 percent of her second serve points. Goerges won 68 percent of her total service points and saved five of her six break points. Goerges has won six of her seven sets this tournament and has a great chance to even win the title if she continues to win 70-plus percent of her first serve points. Goerges has been very consistent with her serve and has even managed to sneak in 20 aces. Goerges has a chance to win four matches in a single tournament since making the semifinals in the Wimbledon. Goerges hopes to make her third final appearance of the year and her 14th final appearance of her career. Goerges has won three of her last four matches on indoor hard court.
Eugenie Bouchard is coming off a straight sets win over Andrea Petkovic that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Bouchard won 64 percent of her first serve points and 23 percent of her second serve points. Bouchard lost the opening set but managed to advance after Petkovic retired once she was down 0-4 in the second set. Bouchard has now played less than two hours in her last two matches and has to have a new level of confidence when you throw in her dominance in qualifying. Bouchard has certainly had her struggles over the years, but a possible title here could be the turning point of her career after such a promising start. Bouchard has a chance to make her first final appearance since the 2016 Malaysian Open and her seventh final appearance of her career. Bouchard has won six straight matches on indoor hard court.
These two have played once, which was in the 2014 French Open, a match Bouchard won in three sets. The match took 23 games to be decided.
It would be nice to see Bouchard reach the final and turn her career around, but the bottom line is we haven’t seen much consistency from her over the years. Bouchard hasn’t beaten a top-10 player since Madrid of last year and probably isn’t playing in this match if Petkovic didn’t need to retire. Goerges is serving well and is easily the more trustworthy player in big matches.
Give me Goerges to reach her third final of the year.
