Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

World number 9, Julia Gorges has made the final of the WTA Luxembourg Open where she will be playing Belinda Bencic from Switzerland.

Belinda Bencic had a very close semifinal match where she beat Dayana Yastremska in 3 sets with the final set being decided by a closely contested tiebreaker. Becic has looked good all tournament as she has only lost one set all event. The return games have been the biggest asset for Belinda Bencic in this tournament as she has already won 21 breakpoints at Luxembourg in only the four matches. This will be the 7th WTA final for Belinda Bencic and considering she has won 2 WTA titles in the past, she should be able to hand the situation of a final well. That being said, Bencic is playing a top 10 ranked opponent which will make this a very challenging match. Bencic has only beaten a top 10 ranked player twice since the start of 2017.

On the other side of the court, Julia Gorges looked in tremendous form as she defeated Eugenie Bouchard in her semifinal match. Similar to her opponent, Gorges returned serve exceptionally well in her last match as she broke Bouchard’s serve on 6 occasions. This is Julia Gorges 14th WTA final and her third of the season. Gorges is a much more accomplished and higher ranked player when compared to Bencic and with an added amount of experience and ability, she will enter this match as the favorite.

Belinda Bencic and Julia Gorges have played twice in the past with both players winning on one occasion. Both of the matches between Gorges and Bencic were played in 2015.

While Belinda Bencic has shown great form in this tournament, I see her losing. Julia Gorges has also been playing very well and at her best, the world number 9 is a much better player than Bencic. Taking everything into consideration, I see Julia Gorges winning this match and lifting her 6th WTA title.
