Ekaterina Makarova and Julia Görges will play each other in the second round of 2018 WTA US Open. Both these players are hugely experienced and extremely talented which means that this should be a great second round contest. These two players have played three times before with Makarova winning the first two times and Julia Görges winning the last time they met which was last week at the WTA Connecticut Open. Both players have won against the other so both players will enter this match with the expectation of making it to the third round of the tournament.

Julia Görges won her opening round match in three sets after she lost the second set. The win was solid but it was a performance with errors. The German had big issues with her serving as only 63% of her first serves were legal. That is something that needs to be improved in this match or it could spell trouble. Julia Görges beat Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets at New Haven and she will hope to repeat that performance.

On the other side of the court, Ekaterina Makarova will look to get her revenge on Julia Görges for the match at WTA Connecticut. The Russian was outplayed on that occasion and she will need to find a new strategy to ensure things are different this time around. Makarova beat Heather Watson in the opening round of this tournament and she looked to be hitting the ball nicely. This will be a bigger challenge for Makarova and she will hope that she can put out a top performance.

Taking everything into consideration, I am going to suggest we pick Julia Görges to win. The German superstar is the better player and I think she will continue her good form and make it into the third round of the 2018 US Open.
