Karen Khachanov and Aljaz Bedene, meet in the first-round of the 2020 Marseille Open. Who of these two in form players will make it to the second-round?
Aljaz Bedene had an incredible week last week in Rotterdam, reaching the quarterfinal before losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. Bedene was able to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in his biggest ever victory. Bedene showed us that he can play with some of the best players and he was able to finish points off quickly with his big serve and strong forehand. Bedene will want to continue his run of form here in Marseille and he has the chance to do that. Will Bedene continue his form or will he fall short and fade away?
Karen Khachanov also had a great week in Rotterdam, eventually falling short to Daniel Evans. Khachanov is beginning to improve his game. He had a breakout season in 2018, but his 2019 season was a bit of a let down. Khachanov lacked the consistency in his game, but in the last few months of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, he seems to have made strides in his style of play. Khachanov has already won big titles before, and knows how to beat the best players, such as Novak Djokovic. If Khachanov can continue to improve his game and remains focused on his tennis, he can fulfil his potential and become one of the best players in the world.
This will be the fourth meeting between both players, and Khachanov has dominated all of their prior encounters. Khachanov has more experience, a bigger serve, and a much stronger forehand. Khachanov will be determined to challenge for the title here in Marseille, and if he continues to play the way he has done all of 2020, he surely can go very far.
Karen Khachanov to win.
