The Line: -- Over/Under:
Karen Khahanov is set to play against Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of the 2019 ATP Rogers Cup in Montreal.
Daniil Medvedev was outstanding in the previous round as he defeated Dominic Thiem in straight sets. The serving was especially impressive from Medvedev as he only lost 7 service points in the entire match. Daniil Medvedev won 96% of his first serve points and that aided him to win all of his service games. In addition to that, Medvedev also received serve well as he won 50% of his receiving points which allowed him to break Dominic Thiem’s serve on 4 occasions. It has been an impressive tournament for Medvedev with the serving being his main highlight. Medvedev has only lost 1 service game in the entire tournament. Daniil Medvedev is in outstanding touch and he is going to be very tough to beat.
On the other side of the coin, Karen Khachanov managed to produce his strongest tennis to defeat Alexander Zverev in straight sets. It was a convincing performance by Khachanov as he won 100% of his service games and 3 return games. Khachanov has already beaten the likes of Stan Wawrinka in this tournament and it seems like the Russian has regained his best form. That being said, this is expected to be a very tough match for Karen Khachanov as he is playing against an elite opponent in Medvedev.
Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev have played each other twice in the past. Both Medvedev and Khachanov have won on 1 occasion. The most recent match between these two players was in 2018 at Moscow where Karen Khachanov won in 3 sets. Daniil Medvedev beat Khachanov at the 2017 ATP Next Gen Finals.
Both Khachanov and Medvedev have looked in good touch and that should make this a very interesting match. As far as predicting a winner is concerned, I am going to pick Daniil Medvedev to win this match. Medvedev has looked on a different level in this tournament and considering his form during his previous match, I see him being too strong for Karen Khachanov.
