Russian tennis superstar Karen Khachanov will play against Nick Kyrgios from Australia in the second round of the 2019 ATP Cincinnati Masters in the United States.
Karen Khachanov will begin his tournament in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round due to his high seeding. Khachanov enters this tournament in outstanding touch after a very strong Rogers Cup campaign where he made it into the semifinals. At the Rogers Cup, Karen Khachanov defeated elite players like Alexander Zverev and Stan Wawrinka. Khachanov was eventually defeated by Daniil Medvedev. Khachanov has a decent record at the Cincinnati Masters as he has won 66% of his matches at this tournament.
Looking at Nick Kyrgios, the Australian enters this match having defeated Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets in the previous round. It was a solid performance by Kyrgios as he impressed with his serving. Nick Kyrgios won 85% of his service points which allowed him to win all of his service games. Kyrgios also won 2 return games to secure the result. It has been a very strong few weeks for Nick Kyrgios as he won the Citi Open earlier in the month. The Cincinnati Masters has always been a strong tournament for Nick Kyrgios as he made the final in 2017. In the last 2 years, Kyrgios has won 78% of his matches at the Cincinnati Masters.
This will be the first time that Nick Kyrgios and Karen Khachanov will be playing each other at an ATP event.
This should be a very close match since both Karen Khachanov and Nick Kyrgios look in outstanding form. Either player could win but I am going to side with Nick Krygios. Kyrgios recent won the Citi Open and he looks high on confidence. When playing well, Kyrgios is amongst the best and I see him being focussed. Kyrgios should be challenged but I see him having enough to win this match and eliminate Karen Khachanov.
