Karen Khachanov and Robin Haase meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tennis Rogers Open.

Karen Khachanov is coming off a straight sets win over John Isner that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Khachanov won 93 percent of his first serve points and 69 percent of his second serve points. Khachanov managed to out serve possibly the best server in the game, which included 15 aces and losing just three of 45 first serve points. Khachanov has now won each of his last six sets and has been broken just once in his last four sets. Khachanov now has a chance to win four sets in a single tournament for the first time since Marseille, and if he can continue to serve at this level, he’s going to be a tough out for anybody. Khachanov has won three of his last four matches on hard court.

Robin Haase is coming off a straight sets win over Denis Shapovalov that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Haase won 71 percent of his first serve points and 65 percent of his second serve points. Haase won 69 percent of his total service points and managed to break on five of his six break points. Haase has also won each of his last six sets and has now produced 15 breaks in this tournament. Haase has been aggressive with his return and has to be a confident player, but he’s not somebody who is used to making deep tournament runs, so now is the time to feel a little skeptical with the 31-year-old. Haase hasn’t won four matches in a single tournament since last years Rogers Cup. Haase has won four of his last five matches on hard court.

This will be the first ever meeting between these two players.

Haase clearly enjoys this tournament and has been returning well enough to win, but it’s tough to bet against what Khachanov is doing right now. The guy is getting so many free points with his serve and isn’t even facing break points let alone being broken. On a fast hard court, it’s going to take a real quality performance to beat players like Khachanov.

I like Khachanov to reach the semis.
