Karolina Pliskova vs Anett Kontaveit - 3/12/19 WTA Tour - Indian Wells Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Czech tennis superstar, Karolina Pliskova has made it into the fourth round of the 2019 WTA Indian Wells Open where she will play against Anett Kontaveit from Estonia.

Anett Kontaveit had an easy match in the previous round as she made it past the number 11 seed, Anastasija Sevastova. Sevastova retired in the opening set after Kontaveit took a 5-0 lead meaning that the Estonian will be fresh as she enters this match. It has been a tough 2019 season for Anett Kontaveit as she has only made 1 quarterfinal appearance all season. This will be a tough match for the Estonian as she is playing an elite opponent in Karolina Pliskova.

Looking at Karolina Pliskova, the world number 5 won her previous match in straight sets. It was a dominant display by Karolina Pliskova as she dominated her opponents serve. During the win, Pliskova won 52% of her return points which allowed her to break her opponent’s serve on 5 occasions. Karolina Pliskova has a very strong record at the Indian Wells Open as her win rate at this event is 77%. Pliskova made the quarterfinals of this event last season and the semifinals of this event in 2017 and 2016. Considering her record at Indian Wells, Karolina Pliskova will be very tough to beat.

Anett Kontaveit and Karolina Pliskova have played each other once in the past. The match was played last season at WTA Stuttgart where Karolina Pliskova won in straight sets.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Karolina Pliskova to win. Pliskova is a very powerful player and I see her power causing Kontaveit many problems since the Estonian lacks a strong defensive game. Pliskova is a more skilled and accomplished player and I see her winning this match and securing her 4th successive quarterfinal appearance at Indian Wells.
