The Line: -- Over/Under:
Czech tennis superstar, Karolina Pliskova has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2019 WTA Rogers Cup in Montreal. At this stage of the tournament, Karolina Pliskova is set to play against Bianca Andreescu from Canada.
Bianca Andreescu was outstanding in the previous round as she eliminated the number 5 seed, Kiki Bertens. It was a determined performance by Bianca Andreescu as she won in 3 sets. During the victory, Andreescu impressed with her returning as she won 43% of her receiving points which allowed her to break Kiki Bertens’ serve on 5 occasions. The serving was also solid from Bianca Andreescu as she won 87% of her service games. Andreescu is playing on home soil and she has the support of the crowd. That being said, I see this being a tough match for Bianca Andreescu as she is playing an elite opponent in Karolina Pliskova.
Karolina Pliskova was dominant in the previous round as she defeated Anett Kontaveit in straight sets. Pliskova dominated with her power which allowed her to control most of the points in the match. During the win, Karolina Pliskova won 82% of her service games and 4 return games. The serving was especially impressive from Pliskova as she had a first-serve percentage of 72% and she won 67% of her service points. Karolina Pliskova has been in outstanding form having recently won the Eastbourne International and the Italian Open. Considering her recent results, Karolina Pliskova will be very tough to beat in this tournament.
This will be the first time that Karolina Pliskova and Bianca Andreescu will be playing each other at a WTA event.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Karolina Pliskova to win this match. Pliskova has been playing on a different level to Bianca Andreescu over the past few months and the Czech superstar looks far too strong for the Canadian. Pliskova is the stronger player and I see her winning this match and securing a spot in the semifinals.
