Karolina Pliskova and Caroline Garcia meet in the quarterfinals of the 2017 French Open.

Karolina Pliskova is coming off a three set win over Veronica Cepede Royg that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Pliskova won 72 percent of her first serve points and 40 percent of her second serve points. Pliskova has come out of nowhere with this French Open success, as clay isn't her best surface and never made it out of the second round in this tournament previously. However, Pliskova has got her serve on point, as she's won no less than 69 percent of her first serve points and has hit a combined 13 aces in her last three matches. Pliskova is now in her third straight grand slam quarterfinal. Pliskova hopes to make her second career grand slam semifinal and first since the 2016 US Open. Pliskova has won six of her last seven matches on clay court.

Caroline Garcia is coming off a straight sets win over Alize Cornet that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Garcia won 68 percent of her first serve points and 48 percent of her second serve points. Garcia has dropped just one set this tournament and has broken her opponents a combined 22 times. With her aggressive return and consistently keeping the ball in play, Garcia has found easily her breakthrough grand slam success, and she’ll have the French crowd behind her for the biggest match of her career at 23 years old. Garcia has eight career wins over top-10 players. Garcia hopes to make her first career grand slam semifinal appearance. Garcia has won seven of her last eight matches on clay court.

These two have split their only four meetings with Pliskova winning the most recent match, this year's Qatar Ladies Open. Three of the four matches were decided in three sets, and Garcia has the only win on clay, which was in the 2015 Madrid Masters.

Three of the fourth matches between these two have gone the distance, so the x-factor could be the home crowd supporting Garcia. Clay isn’t Pliskova’s best surface, as her movement is limited and her serve isn't as powerful as it is on hard court. This is a match that Garcia could win with the way shes played leading up to the quarters.

I’m going to back Garcia in this match given her return ability and help from the home crowd.
