The Line: -- Over/Under:
The number 3 seed, Karolina Pliskova has made it into the third round at Wimbledon. Pliskova will now play against Hsieh Su-wei from Taiwan.
Hsieh Su-wei has won both of her matches in straight sets. In the previous round. Hsieh defeated Kirsten Flipkens from Belgium. It was a solid performance where Hsieh Su-wei won 3 return games and 82% of her service games. This is the first time that Hsieh Su-wei has made it past the second round of a tournament since the Morocco Open in May. Hsieh has not been in the best of form and that may make it tough for her to compete against the number 3 seed.
Looking at Karolina Pliskova, she has also won both of her matches in straight sets. Pliskova was dominant in her previous match as she defeated Monica Puig. Pliskova won the opening set 6-0 and the second set 6-4. Pliskova received serve exceptionally well as she broke Puig’s serve on 5 occasions. Pliskova has also been serving well as she hit 9 aces and won 88% of her service games in the match against Monica Puig.
It has been an outstanding few months for Karolina Pliskova as she has won multiple tournaments. Prior to arriving at Wimbledon, Pliskova won the Eastbourne International where she beat Angelique Kerber in the final. Karolina Pliskova also beat Kiki Bertens at Eastbourne.
Karolina Pliskova and Hsieh Su-wei have played each other twice in the past. Both players have won on one occasion. The most recent match between these two players was earlier in the season at Dubai where Hsieh Su-wei won in 3 sets. Pliskova defeated Hsieh Su-wei in 2018 at the Miami Masters.
Hsieh Su-wei has had a decent tournament but I see her losing this match. Karolina Pliskova has been one of the best players in the world over the past few months and the Czech superstar is looking in emphatic form. Pliskova has the power to beat any player and with form on her side, I see her being too strong for Hsieh Su-wei.
