Karolina Pliskova vs Petra Martic - 3/22/19 WTA Tour - Miami Open Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Karolina Pliskova will begin her 2019 WTA Miami Masters campaign in the second round where she will face Petra Martic.

Petra Martic won her opening fixture with ease as she beat Zhang Shuai in straight sets. It was a dominant performance by Martic as she only lost 3 games in the entire match. During the victory, Petra Martic received serve exceptionally well as she won 56% of her return points which allowed her to win 75% of her return games. Martic only allowed Zhang to win 2 service games in the entire match which was a very impressive feat. This will be a much tougher match for Martic as she is playing a much stronger player in Karolina Pliskova.

On the other side of the coin, Karolina Pliskova received an opening round bye due to her high seeding. It has been a very strong 2019 season for Pliskova as she has made it into the quarterfinals or further in every tournament she has played. Prior to arriving at the Miami Masters, Pliskova played at the Indian Wells Open where she made the quarterfinals. Pliskova made the quarterfinal of this tournament last season which shows that she is comfortable with the conditions.

Karolina Pliskova and Petra Martic have played once in the past. The match was played in 2013 at Wimbledon where Martic won in straight sets. It is important to note that Martic and Pliskova were is different stages of their careers when that match took place.

As far as this match is concerned, I am going to pick Karolina Pliskova to win. Martic has a strong opening round win but she will struggle against Pliskova who is a much stronger player. Pliskova has had an amazing 2019 season and she is looking very dangerous in every match she plays. Considering her recent record, I see Karolina Pliskova winning this match with some ease.
