L. Zhu +1175 / K. Pliskova -2632
The number 3 seed, Karolina Pliskova will begin her 2019 Wimbledon campaign against Zhu Lin from China.
Zhu Lin has been active on the ITF scene over the past few weeks. Since the French Open, Zhu has played 3 ITF tournaments in Great Britain where she produced a record of 2-3.
Throughout her career, Zhu Lin has had a poor record on grass as she has only won 40% of her grass court matches. Zhu is yet to win a match at Wimbledon.
This is expected to be a very tough opening round fixture for Zhu Lin as she is playing a genuine contender to win the title.
On the other side of the coin, Karolina Pliskova enters this tournament in supreme form. Pliskova won the Eastbourne International last week. It was an outstanding tournament for Karolina Pliskova as she defeated the likes of Angelique Kerber and Kiki Bertens during her campaign.
Karolina Pliskova defeated two elite players at Eastbourne and the manner of victory against Bertens and Kerber shows the form of the Czech superstar. Pliskova only conceded 3 games against Bertens and 5 games against Kerber.
2019 has been an outstanding season for Karolina Pliskova has she has already won 3 WTA titles including Brisbane International and Italian Open. Pliskova has an outstanding record on grass as she has won close to 70% of her matches on this surface. Looking at her record at Wimbledon, Pliskova has underperformed at this event throughout her career as she is yet to make it past the fourth round.
There have been no prior matches between Karoline Pliskova and Zhu Lin.
Zhu Lin has been absent from the major tournaments on the WTA tour and it will be tough for her to compete against an elite player like Karoline Pliskova. In 2019, Pliskova has been one of the strongest players and she enters this tournament in outstanding form having just won the Eastbourne International. Pliskova is a strong candidate to win Wimbledon and I see her starting her campaign with a straight-sets victory against Zhu Lin.
