Japanese tennis superstar, Kei Nishikori has made it into the semifinals of the 2018 ATP Brisbane International where he will be playing against Jeremy Chardy from France.
It has been a very impressive tournament for Jeremy Chardy as he seems to be turning back the clock. In the second round, Chardy was very impressive as he eliminated the reigning champions, Nick Kyrgios. The good form continued the quarterfinals for Jeremy Chardy as he beat Yasutaka Uchiyama in 3 sets. During the match, Chardy returned serve exceptionally well as he won 4 break points. It is important to note that Chardy did not serve particularly well in his previous match as he allowed his opponent to break his serve on 3 occasions. Chardy will need to improve his serve if he wishes to compete with Kei Nishikori in this match.
On the other side of the court, Kei Nishikori beat Grigor Dimitrov in his previous match, It was an exceptional display by the Japanese superstar as Nishikori won in straight sets against a former ATP Finals champion. Nishikori served exceptionally well as he hit 5 aces and only lost 1 service game. Furthermore, Nishikori also received well as he broke Dimitrov’s serve 3 times to set up a comfortable win. Kei Nishikori has a great record at this event as he finished second in 2017. With all the assets on his side, Kei Nishikori will be very hard to stop in this tournament.
Kei Nishikori and Jeremy Chardy have played 8 times in the past. Nishikori has won on 6 occasions and Chardy has won twice. The most recent match was last season where Nishikori won.
All in all, I am picking Kei Nishikori to win this match. While Jeremy Chardy has had an exceptional tournament, he is not playing tennis on the same level as Kei Nishikori. Nishikori is among the best players in the world and he is in exceptional form. I see Kei Nishikori making it into the final of the Brisbane International.
