Kei Nishikori and Karen Khachanov meet in the second round of the 2016 US Open.

Kei Nishikori is coming off a four set win over Benjamin Becker that took 32 games to decide. Nishikori simply dominated the opening round match, as he lost just five combined games in the three sets he won. Of course, Nishikori came into the tournament in shaky form, as he has been dealing with a few minor injury issues and had an early exit in Cincinnati. However, if the opening match was a sign of things to come, Nishikori is in great shape for a deep run. Nishikori hopes to make the third round of a grand slam for the fourth straight appearance. Nishikori has won six of his last eight matches on hard court.

Karen Khachanov is coming off a four set victory over Thomas Fabbiano that took 37 games to decide. Khachanov made the most of his first grand slam appearance and now has a shot at the biggest win of his young career at just 20 years old. The one advantage Khachanov has in this match are the lack of expectations, as he doesn’t have a ton of ATP experience and will be able to play pressure free. Khachanov has never made the third round of a grand slam, as this is his first major appearance. Khachanov has won 10 of his last 14 matches on hard court when you include qualifying.

This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.

Nishikori is one of the smarter tennis players and makes crafty shots that frustrate his opponent. The young Khachanov will have his work cut out for him.

Look for Nishikori to win this match rather quickly.
