The number 8 seed from Japan, Kei Nishikori has made it into the round of 16 at the 2019 ATP Australian Open. At this stage of the tournament, Kei Nishikori is set to face Pablo Carreño Busta from Spain.
Kei Nishikori had a dominant third round win as he beat Joao Sousa in straight sets. During the win, Nishikori was exceptional on the forehand as he hit over 20 forehand winners. Nishikori’s returning was his biggest asset in his previous match was his returning as the Japanese superstar won over 42% of the points played during his opponents serve. Kei Nishikori won 5 return games which gave him a big advantage in all the sets. It has been a very strong few weeks for Kei Nishikori as he won the Brisbane International prior to this tournament. With such good form, Nishikori will be hard to beat.
On the other side of the court, Pablo Carreño Busta beat Fabio Fognini in 4 sets. It was a solid performance by Busta as he returned serve very strongly. Pablo Carreño Busta won 47% of her return games which resulted in him winning 8 break points. While the returning was very solid, Busta struggled with his own serve as he lost 6 service games. Pablo Carreño Busta will need to improve his serve if he wishes to compete against Kei Nishikori. This is expected to be a very tough match for Pablo Carreño Busta as he Is playing against a very accomplished opponent.
This is set to be the first time that Kei Nishikori and Pablo Carreño Busta are to play each other.
All in all, I am picking Kei Nishikori to win this match. Nishikori is a very accomplished player and in good form. Pablo Carreño Busta, on the other hand, has not been at his best and has struggled with his serve. Considering Kei Nishikori’s recent form, I see Nishikori winning this match.
