The Line: -- Over/Under:
Kevin Anderson has made it into the quarterfinals of the 2018 ATP Erste Bank Open in Vienna where he will be facing Borna Coric from Croatia.
Kevin Anderson made it through the second round without stepping on the court as his opponent, Jurgen Melzer, retired from the match due to health reasons. It has been a strong few weeks for Kevin Anderson as this will be his third successive quarter-final appearance. Kevin Anderson has made the quarterfinal at every event he has played since the US Open. It has been impressive to watch Kevin Anderson serve in his recent times as the South African has hit 75 aces in his last 4 matches. In these 4 fixtures, Kevin Anderson has only lost 3 service games which shows the difficulty opponents have had at returning his serve. This match should test Kevin Anderson but considering his recent accomplishment and form, he will be confident heading into this fixture.
On the other side of the coin, Borna Coric enters this match having beat Lucas Pouille in 3 sets in the opening round. It was a close match but Borna Coric won a crucial break in the third set to get the win. Borna Coric has been in good form as he finished second at the ATP Shanghai Masters. It was an impressive display by Borna Coric as he defeated the likes of Juan Martin del Potro and Roger Federer. This is expected to be another challenging match for Borna Coric considering it will be another match against a top 10 ranked player. This match could potentially be more challenging than the fixtures against Federer and Del Potro as Anderson is in much better form.
Kevin Anderson and Borna Coric have played 4 times in the past with Anderson winning on 3 occasions and Coric only winning once.
All in all, I am going to pick Kevin Anderson to win this match. Anderson is a much more accomplished playing and considering his good form, I see him being too strong for Borna Coric. Coric impressed by beating Federer in his last tournament but Anderson looks very composed at the moment and I don’t see Coric beating his 3 top 10 players in a matter of weeks. As a result, I see Kevin Anderson making the semifinals of the 2018 ATP Erste Bank Open.
