Kevin Anderson vs Dominic Thiem 2018 US Open Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Austrian superstar, Dominic Thiem, and  South African superstar, Kevin Anderson, are both playing some exceptional tennis and have accordingly both made it into the fourth round of the 2018 ATP US Open. Both of these players are ranked amongst the top 10 in the world which shows that they are both elite tennis superstars. This should ensure that this match will be graced by high-quality tennis. The winner will secure a spot in the quarterfinals and that should be enough incentive for both players to be 100% committed.

These two players have met 7 times in the past with Kevin Anderson winning on 6 occasions and Dominic Thiem winning only once. That being said, Dominic Thiem won the most recent match between these two players and that is more indicative since the Austrian has greatly improved in recent times. These statistics have enough to give confidence to both players and that should ensure we will get a great tennis match.

Both of these players have had to fight hard in their third-round matches and it will be interesting to see which player is let fatigued. In that regards, I think Dominic Thiem is at an advantage because he has played fewer sets than his opponent. The weather has been very hot and fatigue is a big factor in this tournament.

While those aspects are big, I think the deciding factor will be the fact that this match is being played on a hard court. Kevin Anderson is a much better player than Dominic Thiem on this surface and I think that will see the South African have a big advantage which will get him the spot in the last 8 of the tournament. I am expecting this to be a very hard fought game that will last 5 sets since both of these players are exceptionally skilled and talented.
