Matthew Ebden vs Kevin Anderson
|Date & Time||Tuesday October 2, 2018, 2:00 AM (EDT)|
The Line: -- Over/Under:
World number 9, Kevin Anderson will be playing at the 2018 ATP Japan Open where he will begin his campaign against Matthew Ebden from Australia.
South African superstar, Kevin Anderson enters this tournament having beaten Novak Djokovic in his last match. The win was a part of the 2018 Laver Cup and Anderson displayed great serving skills as he hit 17 aces and prevented Djokovic from breaking his serve. Kevin Anderson has been in good form having made the final at Wimbledon, the fourth round of the US Open and the semifinals of the Rogers Cup in Canada. This is a match that Kevin Anderson is expected to win since he is much more accomplished than his opponent and it will be interesting to see if he can live up to his high standards.
On the other side of the court, Matthew Ebden enters this match in decent form as he made the quarterfinals of the ATP Chengdu Open last week. Ebden played well in that tournament although he had problems with his serve as he hit 15 double faults and failed to hold his service games on many occasions. This will be a very hard match for Matthew Ebden as his opponent has much more experience and is much higher ranked. With no prior success in China and a much superior opponent, it is going to be a hard challenge for Matthew Ebden.
Matthew Ebden and Kevin Anderson have played twice in the past with the South African winning on both occasions.
All in all, I think Kevin Anderson will win this match. Anderson is the better player and will be high on confidence having just beat Novak Djokovic. With two prior wins against Matthew Ebden, I see Kevin Anderson winning again and making the second round of this tournament.
