V. Kuzmova +350 / K. Bertens -431
Dutch tennis player, Kiki Bertens has made it into the second round of the 2019 WTA French Open. Kiki Bertens will now face Viktória Kužmová from Slovakia.
Viktória Kužmová defeated Alize Cornet in straight sets in the opening round of the tournament. Viktória Kužmová received serve exceptionally well as the Slovak won 57% of her return points which resulted in her winning 6 break points. The statistics on serve were slightly low for Kužmová as she only won 67% of her service games. Prior to arriving in Paris, Viktória Kužmová played in Rome and Madrid where she finished with a record of 3-2. It was a decent few tournaments for the Slovak but she will have to improve her overall game if she wishes to compete with Kiki Bertens.
Looking at Kiki Bertens, the Dutch player has been in outstanding form leading up to the French Open. Bertens made the semifinals of the Italian Open and won the Madrid Masters. During her epic clay court season, Bertens has beaten the likes of Petra Kvitova, Sloane Stephens, Angelique Kerber and Simona Halep. Bertens looks high on confidence and that was evident during her previous match which she won in straight sets. Bertens won all of her service games and 2 return games to ease to a straight sets victory. While her career statistics are impressive, Bertens is yet to make a major impact at a Grand Slam tournament. With form on her side, Kiki Bertens will be confident that she can make a deep run at this tournament.
Kiki Bertens and Viktória Kužmová have played each other twice in the past with both players winning on one occasion. Both matches have been in 2019 with Viktória Kužmová winning her match at the Dubai Tennis Championship and Kiki Bertens getting her victory at the Miami Masters.
Viktória Kužmová has been very impressive throughout the 2019 season but the Slovak has slightly fallen away since the start of the clay court season. Kiki Bertens, on the other hand, has had an outstanding season on clay and she has established herself as a major player at this event. Bertens looks confident following her win in Madrid and I see her continuing her strong form by beating Kužmová in straight sets.
