The long awaited return of Kim Clijsters is finally here! Clijsters meets Garbine Muguruza in the first-round of the 2020 WTA Dubai Open.
Kim Clijsters is one of the best female tennis players of all time. Clijsters has achieved so much throughout her career and her love for the game is so big that she could not just walk away from it. Clijsters is of course only returning and it will take her time to adapt and be able to get anywhere close to what she used to be. Clijsters will use these early tournaments as a way to get minutes in and train to improve her game, similar to what Andy Murray was doing last summer. Will Clijsters be able to get her first victory in years here in Dubai or will she not be at the level needed just yet?
Garbine Muguruza has had an incredible start to the 2020 season. The Australian Open Finalist was so close to winning the Australian Open, but yet so far. Muguruza is a great player, has an amazing serve, and her forehand is one of the best in the female game. Muguruza will want to get redemption after the loss in Australia and prove to us that she still has her game which saw her win a Grand Slam title in the past. Muguruza is one of the main contenders here for the title in my opinion, but will the pressure of playing one of the best of all time, Kim Clijsters, be too much for her to handle?
This will be the first meeting between both players, and unfortunately I do not see Clijsters having a chance here. Clijsters has been out of the game for so long and it is unreasonable to expect her to be back at her level at her age and with so little playing time. Clijsters will not be looking for too many victories at the moment, but rather just gaining minutes on the court to get a feel for the professional game again and eventually reach a good level. Muguruza wants to win the title here in Dubai and won't fall short in the first-round.
Garbine Muguruza to win.
