Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Bacsinszky meet in the quarterfinals of the 2017 French Open.

Kristina Mladenovic is coming off a three set win over Garbine Muguruza that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Mladenovic won 70 percent of her first serve points and 43 percent of her second serve points. Mladenovic has to be confident after winning 49 percent of her return points and breaking the French Open favorite and defending champ six times. Mladenovic came into this tournament with limited grand slam success, but her recent play suggests she belongs on this stage and having help from the home crowd gives the 24-year-old an extra boost when needed. This will be Mladenovic’s second grand slam quarterfinal appearance, and she hopes to make her first career grand slam semifinal. Mladenovic has won 11 of her last 13 matches on clay court.

Timea Bacsinszky is coming off a three set win over Venus Williams that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Bacsinszky won 55 percent of her first serve points and 63 percent of her second serve points. Bacsinszky showed great fight after dropping the first set, and she lost just three games in the two sets she won to advance. Bacsinszky has now broken her opponents a combined 24 times and has won no less than 55 percent of her return points, a recipe that will produce even more victories. This will be Bacsinszky’s fourth career grand slam quarterfinal, and she hopes to make her second semifinal appearance. Bacsinszky has won six of her last seven matches on clay court.

These two have split their only two meetings with Bacsinszky winning in this years Davis Cup and Mladenovic winning in the 2016 Eastbourne International. This will be their first meeting on clay court.

Bacsinszky is obviously the more experience player in these type of matches and has had to work less to get to this point. However, Mladenovic has had the most impressive victories, which is more encouraging, while besides her win over Venus, Bacsinszky has beaten up on players ranked outside of the top-50. Mladenovic obviously also has the crowd behind her, which could be the x-factor towards winning this match.

I like Mladenovic to advance to the French Open semifinal.
