Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

English tennis superstar, Kyle Edmund, has entered the Winston-Salem Open as a wild card so he can get some court time before the start of the US Open. Edmund will enter this event in the second round due to his high seeding where he will be taking on Leonardo Mayer from Argentina. Both players will be desperate to win this match and move onto the third round so we should be able to witness a good tennis match.

Leonardo Mayer has been in good form recently having come second at the German Open a few weeks ago. The Argentine has looked very dominant and has continued that form to North America. Leonardo Mayer was very solid at Cincinnati where he managed to cause problems to Roger Federer. The Argentine has started this tournament well as he won in straight sets in the first round. Mayer was very dominant in his win with his serve looking very strong. Leonardo Mayer hit 12 aces in his straight-sets win which was very impressive. This will be a tougher game for Leonardo Mayer and it will be interesting to see if he can raise his game to meet the challenge.

On the other side of the court, Kyle Edmund will be very desperate to get a win. The UK-based player has struggled over the past few months and he will be keen to change his form before the start of the US Open. After Wimbledon, Edmund has only won one match and that is not a good result. Winning this fixture and going deep in this tournament will be a priority for Kyle Edmund and I think he is good enough to do that.

I am predicting Kyle Edmund to return to form and win this match. While Leonardo Mayer has been playing well, I don’t think he is at the level of his opponent and I think we will clearly see the skill gap between the players.
