Kyle Edmund and Milos Raonic meet in the third round of the 2019 tennis Miami Open.
Kyle Edmund is coming off a straight sets win over Ilya Ivashka that took 17 games to decide. In the victory, Edmund won 81 percent of his first serve points and 61 percent of his second serve points. Edmund won 73 percent of his total service points and saved his only break point. Edmund is playing some impressive tennis when you throw in his challenger title at Indian Wells and the fact seven of his last nine wins have been won in straight sets. When Edmund has his serve going, he’s capable of being a dangerous opponent. Edmund hopes to make the fourth round of a Masters 1000 for the fourth time in his career. Edmund has won eight of his last nine matches on outdoor hard court.
Milos Raonic is coming off a walkover win over Maximilian Marterer, as he was forced to retire due to injury. Raonic still hasn’t played since making the semifinals in Indian Wells, so he will be well rested and ready to go for this match. Raonic found his serve in those tiebreak exhibition matches and was able to carryover that success in California, beating some quality players before falling to the champion in three tough sets. Raonic hopes to make the fourth round of the Miami Open for the fifth time in his last six appearances. Raonic has won eight of his last nine matches on outdoor hard court.
These two have played once, which was a 2017 match in Delray Beach, a match Raonic won in three sets. The match took 29 games to be decided.
Edmund is playing well entering this match, but a lot of that recent success comes against lesser opponents on smaller stages. It’s the consistency on the main tour that makes Edmund a tough sell. Raonic is rested and coming off one of his best tournaments in a while, as there was a period where he was struggling. Miami is also one of Raonic’s best Masters 1000 tournaments, winning 74 percent of his matches here.
Raonic should win this match comfortably.
