Spanish tennis player, Lara Arruabarrena has made it into the semifinals of the 2019 WTA Copa Colsanitas in Bogotá, Colombia. At this stage of the event, Lara Arruabarrena will face Astra Sharma from Australia.
Lara Arruabarrena won her previous match in straight sets as she eliminated the number 5 seed. It was a dominant display by Arruabarrena as the Spaniard impressed with her serve. During the win, Lara Arruabarrena won 66% of her service points which allowed her to win 89% of her service games. Lara Arruabarrena also won 4 break points to ensure a comfortable win. Lara Arruabarrena has an outstanding record at this event as she won the title in 2012 and finished second in 2017 and 2018.
On the other side of the coin, Astra Sharma also won her previous match in straight sets as she beat Sara Errani from Italy. Sharma returned serve exceptionally well during the win as she won 53% of her receiving points. Sharma broke Sara Errani’s serve on 5 Occasions and won 80% of her own service games to set up the victory. Astra Sharma has never made the final of a WTA event so it will be interesting to see how the Australian handles the pressure of such a big match.
This will be the first time that Lara Arruabarrena and Astra Sharma will be playing each other at a WTA event.
Astra Sharma has exceeded most expectations by making it this far in the tournament. Sharma has played with great composure and skill but I see the Australian losing this match. Lara Arruabarrena has also been playing well and the Spaniard seems to find an extra edge when she plays at this event. Lara Arruabarrena has made 3 finals at this event and I see her making her 4th appearance in the final this season.
