In the Brasil Open, Chilean tennis, Christian Garin, has made it into the quarterfinals. At this stage of the tournament, Garin will play against the number 4 seed, Leonardo Mayer from Argentina.
Christian Garin enters this having beat Jaume Munar in 3 sets in the previous round. During the win, Garin served exceptionally well as he won 79% of his service points. Christian Garin hit 7 aces and won 89% of his service games which helped him set up the overall victory. Garin was also very strong during tiebreakers as he won 2 tiebreakers in the win over Munar. Returning was a slight problem for Christian Garin as he only won 11% of his return games. This is going to be a tough match for Christian Garin as he is playing a very accomplished player in Mayer.
Looking at Leonardo Mayer, the Argentine also won his previous match in 3 sets. It was a relatively simple victory for Mayer as he won 85% of his service games while breaking his opponents serve on 4 occasions. During the victory, Mayer was very strong while serving as he had a first serve percentage on 73% and he won 76% of his first serve points. This is the second time in 2019 that Leonardo Mayer has made it into the quarterfinals on an ATP tournament which shows he is in decent touch.
This will be the first time at an ATP event that Leonardo Mayer and Christian Garin will be playing each other.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Leonardo Mayer to win this match. Mayer is a more experienced and accomplished as the Argentine has won 2 ATP titles where Garin has won none. Leonardo Mayer looked in good form in his previous match and I am expecting that to continue for him in this fixture also.
