The Line: -- Over/Under:
Leonardo Mayer and Stefanos Tsitsipas meet in the third round of the 2019 tennis Miami Open.
Leonardo Mayer is coming off a straight sets win over Guido Pella that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Mayer won 81 percent of his first serve points and 41 percent of his second serve points. Mayer won 64 percent of his total service points and saved 10 of his 11 break points. Mayer has really struggled with his form these last six months, so while it’s just two wins, we should see a much more confident player when he takes the court. Mayer has a chance to win three matches in a row for the first time since making the final in Hamburg back in July. Mayer hopes to make the fourth round of a Masters 1000 for the second time in his career. Mayer has won three of his last four matches on outdoor hard court.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is coming off a straight sets win over Mackenzie McDonald that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Tsitsipas won 83 percent of his first serve points and 65 percent of his second serve points. Tsitsipas won 76 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his eight break points. Tsitsipas seems to be slowly finding his momentum that he finished last year with and is coming off a really impressive serving performance. When Tsitsipas is hitting his spots and not questioning things, he’s more than capable of pushing for final appearances on big tournaments like this one. Tsitsipas hopes to make the fourth round of a Masters 1000 for the second time in his career. Tsitsipas has won seven of his last 10 matches on outdoor hard court.
There’s no match history between these two players.
It’s going to take more than one or two wins for anybody to trust Mayer against one of the better players in the world. Mayer has had very little go right for him these past six months and has never exactly been a big match player. Tsitsipas looked sharp in his last performance and usually rolls over lesser opponents when playing well.
This is a match Tsitsipas should win in straight sets.
