Dusan Lajovic meets Lorenzo Sonego in the second-round of the 2020 Rio de Janeiro Open. Who will make it to the quarterfinals?
Dusan Lajovic has been in incredible form for the last year or so. The Serb has been able to achieve incredible milestones in his career, reaching his first Masters 1000 final in Monte-Carlo, and also being a vital part of Team Serbia's win in the inaugural ATP Cup. Lajovic came through a hard-fought match against Marco Cecchinato in the first-round, eventually winning the third set 6-1. Lajovic has a great feel for the game, his serve is strong and accurate, his forehand is precise, and his one-handed backhand is a thing of beauty. When confident, Lajovic can present a threat to anyone. Will he be able to make it far here in Rio, or will Lorenzo Sonego stop him?
Lorenzo Sonego is back on clay! Sonego really found his form on the dirt in 2019, but did not find the same consistency on other courts throughout the year. Sonego is a great player, he is tall, has a strong serve, and his movement is great. It will be interesting to see how his 2020 season will go. Sonego booked his spot in the second-round with a 3 set victory over Leonardo Mayer. Sonego struggled for the first two sets to find the same form he had on clay in 2019, however, in the third set, he turned the engines on and was unstoppable. Will Sonego be able to continue this form against Lajovic in the second-round?
This will be the second meeting between both players, with Lajovic having won their prior encounter. Lajovic looks favourite for me to win here, he has had more time on court in the last few weeks, allowing him time to find his best game, and he is also the more experienced player. It might be a close one, but eventually Lajovic will win.
Dusan Lajovic to win.
