Lucie Safarova and Coco Vandeweghe meet Monday in the fourth round of the 2015 Wimbledon.
Lucie Safarova is coming off a three set victory over Sloane Stephens, which lasted just under and hour and a half. Safarova has played eight sets so far and is winning at least 67 percent of her first serve points. Safarova has also won at least 69 percent of her second serve points in her last two matches. Safarova has combined for 14 aces, 78 winners and 76 unforced errors. It’s really no secret what Safarova must improve on; as she has no shot to make a deeper run if she continues to pile up the unforced errors. However, 40 of those errors came in her first match alone. Safarova has made it past the fourth round of a grand slam just twice since 2008. However, Safarova did reach the semifinals of the Wimbledon last season.
Coco Vandeweghe is coming off a straight sets win over Samantha Stosur, which finished in exactly an hour. Vandeweghe has yet to drop a set this tournament and is winning at least 75 percent of her first serve points. Vandeweghe is also coming off a match in which she won eight of her 10 net point chances. Vandeweghe has combined for 28 aces, 77 winners and 61 unforced errors. You’d also like to see Vandeweghe cut down on her unforced errors, but when she’s hitting the ball like she is and dominating her service game, you learn to live with those more than normal. Vandeweghe is playing fabolous tennis right now. Vandeweghe has never even played in the fourth round of a grand slam until now. A third round appearance in this year’s Australian Open was the furthest Vandeweghe ever reached.
This will be the first time these two have ever played one another.
Every year there seems to be somebody who comes out of nowhere on the women’s side and makes a nice run in a grand slam. That may be Coco Vandeweghe in this year’s Wimbledon. Vandeweghe is flat out dominating her service game and has been in great control of all of her matches. I’ll take a shot with Vandeweghe and the plus money here.
